LCJ to hold its first ever concert

Published in the official website of the Laoag City Government.

The Laoag City Jail Inmates’ Choir featuring the LCJ Dance Troupe will be having its first ever charity concert this month.

Since the assumption of J/SINSP ROQUE CONSTANTINO A SISON III as warden of Laoag City Jail, he has been initiating various projects and programs for the transformation and development of the city jail. He initially addressed the problem on security and total renovation of various facilities inside the jail and upon completion of the vertical elevation of the whole existing perimeter wall of the jail, his focus now is the inmates’ welfare and development.

The warden has envisioned Laoag City Jail as a temporary home not just a plain jail facility for the inmates during their incarceration. He wanted to create a homey atmosphere inside the jail and at the same time provide humane safekeeping and development of inmates.  In doing so, he has launched the LCJ Choir and LCJ Dance Troupe as part of the inmates’ recreational activities. The choir and the dancers perform during special occasions and to various government and non-government organizations including BJMP officials and other personalities during their visits to the jail. The dancers rehearse whenever there are programs or activities conducted inside the jail while the choir regularly rehearse to serve during the conduct of religious activities every Friday and Saturday. But in preparation for the upcoming charity concert, both the choir and the dancers have been on intensive practice as early as August.

It was during a charity program for the inmates dubbed as Reaching Out: A Post Father’s Day Celebration last July hosted by ABC President Hon. Chevylle V. Fariñas together with her batch mates at the Holy Spirit Academy of Laoag Batch 1986 when the charity concert was conceptualized. The LCJ Choir serenaded the guests with several songs during the said program and it seemed that Fariñas was inspired by the choir’s performance that she immediately convened her batch mates and talked about the possibility of having a concert inside the jail that will showcase the talents of the inmates. The warden welcomed the idea because he believes that this will further boost the morale of the inmates and the proceeds will definitely benefit the jail especially now that the construction of a separate female cell is underway.

The charity concert will be the first ever conducted in all of BJMP Region 1 and Laoag City Jail under Warden Sison will hold the honor in making history once again for this very significant activity for the inmates.
